Red flowers and blossoms in your garden are always a great way to make a statement and to catch some attention – they are bright and beautiful and are available in a variety of different types of plants and flowers.
Here is a list of beautiful red plants for each zone – just find your zone and you are well on your way to adding some of these stunning plants to your own gardens and landscapes.
Zones 1 and 2
- Champagne Bubbles Iceland Poppy: these lovely little flowers come in a range of bright colors, but the red ones truly stand out in a crowd. They bloom May-July and will do well in flower beds or in containers.
- Frosty Fire Dianthus: This low lying ground cover produces stunning red blooms and is an excellent choice to line a path or walkway, or to plant among rocks to fill in the open spaces.
Zone 3-4
- Arizona Red Shades Blanket Flower: This red beauty is a great choice with its large bright red flowers that have a little touch of yellow at the tips. They are very low maintenance and can do very well in less than ideal soil conditions.
- Blaze Peony: This flower is a great addition to your garden because it is a bright red, attention grabbing, big flower that is also great for cutting and enjoying inside of your home.
Zone 5-7
- All Ablaze Climbing Rose: If roses are your flower of choice then you should certainly add this lovely flower to your garden. This is an excellent choice to grow up and over a trellis or wall. This is a very hardy rose plant and it produces large ruffled bright red blooms.
- Chicago Apache Daylily: This red flower blooms from June through August and is very drought resistant. A beautiful addition to any landscape!
- Cranberry Ice Tickseed: this lovely perennial produces a dark cranberry red flower that has flecks of white around the edges of the petals. It is a great choice for container gardening or planted in large groups.
Zone 8-9
- Cherry Cola Heuchera: These red blossoms are a great choice for your garden as they start blooming in late spring and continue into early summer. These plants are best when planted in large groups to use as a ground cover.
Zone 10-11
- Ruby Spider Daylily: This red flowering perennial is a show stopper with its very large (9”) dark red blooms! Plant in groups for an even greater effect and impact. These are very versatile plants and are easy to grow.
