I have dreams of outdoor theatres. I’m not just saying that, it’s true.

Several years ago my husband and I went on a cruise. Our favorite part of the cruise (other than the food of course) was the movie under the stars. Every night after dark the ship had a giant movie screen on deck and we’d snuggle up on the deck chairs and watch an old movie with the sound of the ocean in the background. It was chilly and amazing and I’ve wanted to recreate that scene at home (minus the ocean sounds which I can’t exactly recreate).

A backyard theatre has all the charm and appeal of a drive-in movie, except you get to pick the flick and you have a fully equipped kitchen just a few steps away. Here are a few outdoor theatre ideas that will definitely help you enjoy those summer nights.

Every outdoor theatre needs amazing outdoor seating, this inflatable pool transformed into an inflatable couch is pure genius.

This setup is seriously amazing. A beautiful garden trellis outlines this movie screen in a way that is absolutely stunning.

These DIY backyard theatre seats are the perfect edition to your outdoor setup, they are easy to fold and store, and super comfy for the entire family.

No time? No worries. This outdoor projector comes prepackaged with everything you need, ready to assemble and use immediately.

Take down the hammock and hang up the screen. This is one of the easiest movie theater screens you can put up in no time flat.

Sometimes the hardest part of putting up a screen is getting the dimensions right so your image is not too big, not too small, and not too blurry or cut off at the edges. Here is a good baseline for a 16:9 projection.

This massive screen is one of the biggest I’ve seen hung directly from the side of the house! This truly creates a larger than life experience, and it doesn’t get much better than that.
