There is definitely something to be said for soaking in the sunshine and fresh air that spring, summer, and fall bring.  We feel good, we enjoy the great outdoors, and somehow everything just feels right in the world.

Have you ever felt just a little down in those winter months when the snow is relentless, the temperatures are freezing, and not much is growing and thriving?  I know that I have certainly had a case of the winter blues from time to time!

The good news is that there are lots of things that you can do, simple but effective tips and tricks to beating back those winter blues.

Let There be light!

The vitamin D that we absorb from the sunlight is a key ingredient to elevating our mood and general feelings of well-being.  Throughout the winter months make sure to open the blinds and shutters, trim back any branches or trees that may obstruct the available light from shining in through the windows, and when possible, get outside.

Even the daylight with cold temperatures will help to bring you out of a slump. Take your hat off for 5-10 minutes and let the sun hit your scalp.  This daily ritual will help your overall mood.

      Watch your Diet

There have been many studies and researchers that have concluded that consuming large quantities of refined sugars and carbohydrates can, over the long term, heighten feelings of anxiety and depression.

If you are struggling with the winter blues making sure to eat a nutritious and balanced diet will go a long way to help.
